My son started pre-school this year, so this was his first school Halloween Party! I wanted to make the treat he brought together so he would be proud of it. They turned out so cute and he ate 3 before we even made it to school. All his friends were raving about it when I picked him up, too!
It’s a lot of fun to let the kids decorate these, we decided to make little monsters but you can really do whatever decorations you like. Even just sprinkles would be adorable. This recipe can be a blank canvas for a lot of possibilities.
I add sweetened condensed milk to my rice crispy treats, it makes them a bit softer in texture and adds more flavor. Also, I like to brown the butter, it makes them taste a little like caramel!
I like to roll the rice crispy treats into balls while they are still warm. Make sure to spray your hands with some cooking oil so the treat doesn’t stick to your hands.
Have fun and enjoy! Happy Halloween!

- 12 oz package of mini marshmallows
- 2-3 drops food coloring
- 7 cups puffed rice cereal
- 1/8 cup white chocolate
- Eyeball Sprinkles
Directions
- Step 1
- In a large pot on medium high heat, melt butter and let simmer until browned.
- Step 2
- Add the condensed milk and stir well. Bring to a simmer.
- Step 3
- Add the vanilla and marshmallows. Stir until completely melted.
- Step 4
- Once the mixture is smooth, add the coloring and stir until completely mixed in.
- Step 5
- Cut the heat and stir in the rice cereal. Toss until all the cereal is coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Step 6
- Portion out the mixture evenly on parchment paper, I used a large ice cream scoop to make sure they were all the same size. Spray your hands with cooking oil and press into balls.
- Step 7
- Melt the white chocolate in the microwave in 10 second intervals. Make sure to keep an eye on it, white chocolate is very sensitive!
- Step 8
- Decorate with the eyeball sprinkles to make little monsters! Place a dollop of white chocolate and stick the eyeball to it.
- Step 9
- Place in the fridge for 15 minutes to harden. Enjoy!
- Step 10
- Optional: You can put a stick into these and have them be handheld treats.
