One of my favorite things to do in summer is to go cherry picking. I would go with my Nana and eat so many cherries while picking, I always picked myself a huge bag too.
I love cherries in the summer, it’s like you can taste the sun though them.
Making cherry turnovers with cherries that aren’t super fresh is my go to when I need to use them up fast. I hate wasting food and this is something my whole family likes to eat! They are sweet but not too sweet, just how they should be! They are only 5 ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen, so its simplicity at it’s finest. Enjoy!
5 Ingredient Fresh Cherry Turnovers

Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh cherries, pitted and rough chopped
- 1/4 cup sugar (white or raw)
- 1 lemon, cut in half
- 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry
- 1/4 cup Powdered sugar
Directions
- Step 1
- Wash and prepare the cherries, pit them and rough chop them.
- Step 2
- Put cherries directly into a small pot and add the juice of half a lemon and the sugar. Turn the heat to med high.
- Step 3
- Stir the cherries often, they will release all the juices and it will begin to bubble. Keep stirring until the jam is reduced and is a thick syrup. Take it off the heat and let it completely cool. this will take about 15-20 minutes.
- Step 4
- Preheat the oven to 375
- Step 5
- Once the jam is room temp, take out the sheet of very cold puff pastry and cut into 6 rectangles.
- Step 6
- Place a couple spoonfuls on one end of the puff pastry leaving the edges clear and fold the dough over. Crimp the edges and transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Step 7
- Pierce each turnover in the middle.
- Step 8
- Bake for 10-15 minutes until the tops are golden brown.
- Step 9
- Mix the powdered sugar and the other half of the lemon juice in a small bowl to make the icing. Drizzle each turnover with the icing. Enjoy!
